Rocking Chair Pondering

Summer is officially here in the South. It’s hot. It’s humid. A bit rainier than usual, but it’s the perfect set up to return to the previously mentioned state of being hot and humid. It’s the season of popsicles, ice cream, watermelon, burgers and hot dogs. The season of creek wading, water fun at the splash pad and a good ol’ dip in the pool. June basically flashed by and the 4th of July is next week. It’s easy to know that June is quickly coming to an end here in our rural community. When you start to hear the random pops in the middle of the day, you know the fireworks tents are officially in business. I’ve never quite understood the midday fireworks myself. It seems like such a waste not being able to see all the pretty colors. My inner pyro would tell me it’s the fire and the pop/the boom… maybe it really is that simple…. but still, I’d rather shoot them at night. Another holiday means another theme or set up for me to play with. I don’t think I every totally execute the dream that is imagined in this head of mine but rest assured… there will be red, white and blue sewn into our 4th of July celebrationi in some form or fashion. I can close my eyes and see a pretty patio or porch with those pretty dangly lights. Tables with pretty tablecloths… maybe red, white or blue… or a super patriotic design. A stack of hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings. A bowl of strawberries and blueberries with a whip cream dip. A variety of potato chips and maybe a bag of Cheetos. Red, White and Blue Rocket Pops and vanilla ice cream… a bucket of homemade peach ice cream spinning… yeah, that sounds better than just plain ol’ vanilla, right? Sounds kinda simplistic when I type it out… but in my mind, it just sounds perfect. I’ll add some links help show my vision of the perfect 4th of July celebration. Maybe it will help keep me on task for what I want to do or help drum up new ideas. I’ve got right at a week to decide just how themed our holiday will be.
